What is MyGavel?
MyGavel is an AI-powered legal self-help platform that helps self-represented litigants prepare court documents, organize cases, track deadlines, and understand legal terminology in plain English.
Is MyGavel a law firm?
No. MyGavel is not a law firm and is not a substitute for a licensed attorney. It provides self-help tools only.
Does MyGavel provide legal advice?
No. MyGavel does not provide legal advice, and using the platform does not create an attorney-client relationship. Information on MyGavel is for general educational and self-help purposes.
Can MyGavel prepare legal documents?
MyGavel helps you generate drafts of common court documents — including complaints, motions, family law filings, unlawful detainer, small claims, and restraining order forms — using the information you provide. Where a court requires its official mandatory PDF, MyGavel produces a populated visual replica for you to copy onto the official form.
Who should use MyGavel?
MyGavel is built for self-represented filers (pro per / pro se) who cannot afford or do not need a full-service attorney but still need help preparing court documents and understanding the process.
How secure is my information?
MyGavel stores your data on secure, access-controlled infrastructure with row-level security. Uploaded documents are private to your account, and administrators only access information when you submit an issue report or expressly request support.
Can attorneys use MyGavel?
Yes. Attorneys, paralegals, and legal-aid staff can use MyGavel as an efficient drafting and case-organization tool, but MyGavel itself does not practice law.
Can I edit documents before filing?
Yes. Every generated document can be reviewed, edited, and exported before you file it with the court. You are responsible for reviewing every document for accuracy before filing.
Can I upload court forms?
Yes. You can upload court forms and case files into your case workspace for organization and reference. Uploaded files are private to your account.
